Robert Rocco, piano

Pianist Robert Rocco holds degrees from Carnegie Mellon and Yale.  He served as accompanist and vocal coach at Carnegie Mellon and Chatham College before joining the University of North Carolina School of the Arts as a collaborative artist and instructor of aural skills.  His studies have taken him to the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau, France as well as to the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.  He holds a position as repetiteur at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.  In addition, he has served on the piano faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan.

The Robert Page Festival Singers have twice invited Mr. Rocco to tour with them in performances of the Verdi Requiem in Russia, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, France, and Spain.  His frequent work in the choral idiom has led him to turn to choral composing and arranging, as well.

Mr. Rocco is also well known to audiences in France as a recital soloist and collaborative artist.  He performed chamber music by UNCSA alumnus Maurice Patrick Byers at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City and has recorded the "Moby Dick" Sonata and the "Music History Quartet" on the CD 2003: A Bass Odyssey, released by bassist Lynn Peters.  A native of western Pennsylvania, he is also a student of ballroom dancing and won First Place in the Showcase Division of the Fred Astaire Carolina Challenge in Greensboro in August 2012.  He makes his home in Winston Salem.  .
